Multiple Merchant Accounts on the same store, based on product

We have a store that will sell all types of food. There is also a category called Wine & Spirits.
we would like to add a parameter (possibly a drop-down) in the admin for products
there will be 2 choices
for all products with the 2nd choice, they will be charged to a different merchant account
all other products will go to the default merchant account
so products can be separated into 2 merchant accounts and there will be 2 subtotals
we do not need to show this on the invoice or anywhere in the front end
just need to be able to send the authorizations and then captures to separate merchant accounts based on each product’s settings
I need to split the order total into 2 merchants
Based on each product’s merchant settings
in the admin, we will set per product:
Merchant 1
OR
Merchant 2
based on this, the total will be split and each total will be sent to each merchant account

Let me give you an example. Let’s assume this is the order:
Apples $1
Chicken $2
Wine $3
Vodka $4
in the admin, wine and vodka are set to merchant 2
and apples and chicken are set to merchant 1
so merchant 1 will charge $3 total
and merchant 2 will charge $7 total
to the customer, it will all be on one invoice, they don’t need to see it split up
but when they look at their credit card, they will see 2 charges, one for each merchant based on products ordered

Can this be done?
