How do i find out why for some sales no orders are created?

Asked by: justin 1802 views Questions

1 in 15 (approx) sales there is no order created in Magento.

Customer says they saw an error message but cant recall what it is, i cant replicate it.

Logging in var/log is not working so i have no idea what is causing it!

Only find out about purchase due to receipt of payment from Eway/PayPal. Any ideas?

i am with Gigapros and have a semi-dedicated server.

Do you think having my own server could fix the problem? What cause this issue exactly, is it when the server is over-run?

It’s most likely a server issue and not a Magento issue. Are you using a Magento optimized hosting? Is it a shared server?

No I don’t think that upgrading will solve your issue. If you have a Magento optimized host there shouldn’t be any problem like that.

Can you send me a link to your site? I will check it out.

I looked at your site with the URL you sent me privately and placed a dummy order. I went through the checkout process and selected “Paypal Express” as a payment method. Then I clicked on “Place Order” but instead of being redirected to Paypal (which should be the behavior) I was redirected to the cart page and had to click on the Paypal button there.

My guess is that all orders placed that way are not registered on your store. Could that be possible? It’s a problem in your template and I’d recommend fixing it asap because it’s also very confusing for the user to be redirected to the cart once you click on “place order”.

I also placed the order using the “check / money order” option – and that order was created no problem (order #100001525 – you can discard it).

    I hope this helps!

Thanks for getting back to me i really appreciate it!

i tried to replicate the error you mentioned but it works fine for me when i click ‘express paypal checkout’ from first checkout page and when i go through all the steps as a guest and click checkout with paypal.. what browser did you use?

I have tried a few times and it seems to work everytime for me..?

The error occurs when you “proceed to checkout” from the CART page and then select paypal express as a payment method from the checkout page. Does that make sense? That’s probably why you get your bug only 1 out of 15 orders.

but the bug only occurs when you select “credit card”!?

I will try a few more times to replicate your paypal error

Justin – you won’t see any error. Only the order won’t be created – isn’t it the issue you are having?

Again – my best bet is that this happens when users proceed to checkout as usual and choose “paypal express”.

seems to happen when two orders are being placed simultaneously!! Any ideas why this would happen or how it can be fixed?
